The Murphy Oil tank breaks loose and coats 1,700 homes
2005
Chalmette, Louisiana
St. Bernard Parish took four to fourteen feet of water when Katrina's surge broke the levees along the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet. The day after landfall a 250,000 barrel storage tank at the Murphy Oil refinery floated off its moorings and split. Roughly a million gallons of crude ran through Chalmette and Meraux and into about 1,700 flooded houses, and residents came home to oil lines on their walls.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
