The Middle Avenue works, where Aurora made typewriter ribbon

Two square blocks of factories, warehouses and distribution buildings filled in here in the early 1900s along a Chicago, Burlington and Quincy spur that railroad crews called the Alley Job. Eleven buildings make up the district and eight of them count as contributing. The tenants included the Pictorial Printing Company and Miller-Bryant-Pierce, which turned out typewriter ribbon and carbon paper for a country that still typed everything twice.
