The Michigan Firehouse Museum takes over the 1898 Ypsilanti station

Ypsilanti put up this Romanesque Revival fire station on West Cross Street in 1898 and ran calls out of it until 1975. A non-profit reopened it in 1998 as the state's museum of firefighting, keeping the original bunk room and brass pole and adding a big modern hall behind it. The collection runs from horse-drawn steamers to antique pumpers, along with what the museum says is the largest gathering of fire truck bells in the country.
