The man who named Norris Geyser Basin built this house first

Philetus W. Norris built this house near Mound and Davison in 1873, in a village of his own founding on what was then farmland north of Detroit. Four years later he became the second superintendent of Yellowstone, cut the park's first roads and catalogued the hot springs at the basin that carries his name. The house was listed on the National Register in 1992 and burned in 2016.
