The Lefferts house, moved into Prospect Park

Pieter Lefferts built this Dutch colonial farmhouse around 1783 on a 240 acre estate along Flatbush Avenue. The 1800 census recorded twelve enslaved people living on it against eight Leffertses, one of the largest slaveholdings in Kings County, and the family kept buying people until New York finished emancipation in 1827. When development reached the farm the heirs gave the house to the city on the condition it be moved, so in 1918 it was rolled six blocks into Prospect Park, where it is now a museum that says all of this out loud.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
