A Welsh settler put up a stone cottage at the Swedesford and Gulph roads crossing around 1719, and it was running as a tavern by 1769. The town took its name from the inn, which took its own from Frederick the Great. Pennsylvania acquired the property for road work in 1952 and left the building marooned on an island in the middle of US 202 for nearly fifty years, until it was rolled up the highway to donated land on 20 August 2000 and restored.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
