The Inglewood Klan raid and the trial that followed
1922
Inglewood, California

In 1922 a party of masked Klansmen raided the Elduayen family's ranch in Inglewood, believing the Basque immigrants were selling liquor through Prohibition. One of the raiders, an Inglewood police officer, was shot dead during the raid. Thirty six men went on trial and the jury acquitted every defendant who saw it through, but the publicity broke the Klan's respectability in California. The city that hosted that chapter was majority Black within two generations.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
