Montrose Morris built it in yellow and buff brick and terracotta for the developer Louis Seitz, at a moment when Brooklyn's middle class still had to be persuaded that a respectable family could live in a flat. The city took the building for unpaid taxes in the 1970s. A gut renovation costing about 6.3 million dollars brought it back, and it was designated a landmark in 1986.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
