The Hunley sinks the Housatonic
February 17, 1864
Charleston Harbor, South Carolina
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
A hand-cranked submarine became the first ever to sink a warship, and then vanished with all eight aboard. It had already drowned two previous crews in training. Found in 1995 and raised in 2000, with the men still at their stations.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
