The House on the Rock
1959
Spring Green, Wisconsin

Alex Jordan Jr. Started building on a rock outcrop nine miles from Taliesin in the 1940s and never really stopped, and what opened to the public in 1959 has since swallowed a fake Victorian street, a two-hundred-foot sea creature fighting a kraken, rooms of self-playing orchestras, and a carousel with 269 animals, 182 chandeliers and twenty thousand lights, none of them horses, which nobody is allowed to ride. Neil Gaiman made it a hinge of American Gods, and both the novel and the 2017 series treat it as a place where the roadside attraction is the sacred site.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
