The Fountain of Youth, a legend sitting on real 1565 ground

The spring has been sold to visitors since 1901 as the water Ponce de Leon came looking for in 1513, a claim with nothing behind it. The ground underneath turned out to matter anyway. Digs here since 1934, and under Kathleen Deagan since the 1970s, have traced the 1565 landing camp of Pedro Menendez de Aviles and the Timucua village of Seloy that stood on the same fifteen acres.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
