The floating bridge
1820
Brookfield, Vermont
User:Magicpiano · CC BY-SA 4.0 · Wikimedia Commons
Sunset Lake is too deep for pilings, so since 1820 Brookfield has simply floated its bridge on the surface, replacing it seven times as each version got waterlogged. The current one rides on modern pontoons but still sits low enough that a heavy truck makes its own small wake. It is the only floating highway bridge in New England, and in winter the town skates around it.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
