The first ski tow in America
1934
Woodstock, Vermont
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
In January 1934 some Woodstock innkeepers rigged an endless rope around a Model T engine on Gilbert's Hill and pulled skiers uphill for the first time in America, at a dollar a day. Lift-served skiing, the entire industry of it, starts with that farm truck. A marker stands on the hill, which is still just a hill.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
