The first Queens Pride Parade
1993
37th Avenue at 89th Street, Jackson Heights, Queens
La Guardia and Wagner Archives · CC BY-SA 2.0 · Wikimedia Commons
About ten thousand people marched west along 37th Avenue in June 1993, following a lavender line painted on the asphalt from 89th Street to 75th. Daniel Dromm and Maritza Martinez organised it after the 1990 killing of Jackson Heights resident Julio Rivera, and it was the first pride march held in Queens. The route still passes the corner named for Rivera.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
