The Ennis House, Frank Lloyd Wright's biggest concrete block experiment

Wright built four houses in Los Angeles out of patterned concrete blocks cast on site and threaded together with steel rod, and this one, finished in 1925 for Charles and Mabel Ennis, is the largest. He was mostly in Tokyo during construction, so his son Lloyd ran the job, and the blocks started cracking almost immediately because the mix used sand dug from the hillside. Earthquake and rain damage nearly finished it off in the 1990s and 2000s before a long restoration. Film crews keep coming back to it, most famously for Deckard's apartment in Blade Runner.
