The Eberhard Faber pencil factory
1872
Greenpoint, Brooklyn
CC0 · Wikimedia Commons
Faber moved pencil production to Greenpoint after a fire destroyed the company's Manhattan works, and the complex turned out pencils here into the 1950s. The buildings still carry the star and diamond trademark in terracotta, and the factory helped fix yellow as the colour of the American pencil.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
