The Decatur Waterworks, abandoned in the woods since the 1940s
1907
Mason Mill Park, DeKalb County, Georgia
Finished in 1907, this plant pulled Decatur's drinking water out of Peachtree Creek and Burnt Fork Creek. It was abandoned in the 1940s and nobody ever cleared the site, so the concrete tanks and pump house were simply left standing in second growth woods. They sit inside Mason Mill Park now, roofless and layered in graffiti, a short walk off the trail.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
