The Cumberland floods the Opry House

Thirteen inches of rain in two days put the river through the Opry House, the Opryland hotel and much of downtown, and killed twenty-six people across the state. The Opry played other venues for five months. The disaster drew strikingly little national coverage, and the city's response, neighbours clearing houses without waiting for anyone, became a point of local pride.
