The concrete ship at Sunset Beach
1926
Cape May Point, New Jersey
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
When steel ran short in the First World War the government tried building ships out of concrete, which floated but were too heavy to be any use. The Atlantus was one of twelve. Laid up after the war, she broke her moorings in a storm and grounded off the point, where she has sat cracking apart in the surf for a century. At low tide a grey wedge of her still shows above the water.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
