The hotel opened the same year as the stadium down the hill and became the place the borough held its weddings, its political dinners and its championship parties. Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris lived here during seasons, as did visiting teams. It slid into use as a welfare hotel in the 1970s and was converted to housing for older people in the 1990s.
