Chelsea Creek carries the fuel that keeps Logan Airport running, so the bridge over it has to get out of the way. This vertical lift span opened in May 2012 after a $125.3 million project replaced an old single leaf drawbridge, and it rises to give 175 feet of clearance. It carries two lanes and a sidewalk in each direction between East Boston and Chelsea.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
