Interstate Theatres put up an Art Moderne picture house on West Hickory Street in 1949, aimed squarely at students from the two universities a few blocks either side of it. Pettigrew and Worley of Dallas gave it a stepped parapet, a tapered fin sign and a neon canopy. The Greater Denton Arts Council bought the building in 1990 and raised more than 1.8 million dollars to restore it, with Texas Woman's University art students repainting the interior murals.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
