The Bonneville Salt Flats, where land speed records die

Thirty thousand acres of salt left by a vanished lake, flat enough that the Earth's curvature is visible. Nearly every land speed record from the 1930s to the 1970s was set here. Potash mining has thinned the crust badly since.
