Franklin Thomas built a 218 seat theatre into the Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation's plaza in 1972, on the argument that a development corporation that only fixed buildings was not developing anything. Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Vereen worked its stage early. It received the National Medal of Arts in 2023, which is not a thing that usually happens to a neighbourhood playhouse.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
