Thomas Barrett bought a house and fifty two acres on this ground in 1663, eight years after Chelmsford was incorporated. Much of the structure standing today is probably mid eighteenth century, built as a south facing saltbox with a fireplace in every room. The Chelmsford Historical Society uses it as its headquarters.
