The Ball-Sellers House, a one-room log cabin from the 1740s

John Ball was a yeoman farmer, not a planter, and the one-room cabin with a loft that he built in the 1740s is now the oldest building left in Arlington County. He later added a lean-to and covered the logs in clapboard. Almost nothing survives anywhere from how ordinary Virginians actually lived in that century, which is the whole reason this cabin matters. The Arlington Historical Society owns it and opens it to visitors.
