The organisation began in 1939 as the Automobile Old Timers, formed in a Manhattan hotel to keep the memory of the industry's founders. It spent years at Northwood University in Midland, Michigan, before this building opened beside the Henry Ford museum campus in 1997. It has since honoured hundreds of people, from carmakers to drag racers.
