The Americana at Brand and the fight over a fake main street
Glendale, California
Minnaert · CC BY-SA 3.0 · Wikimedia Commons
Rick Caruso spent four contested years getting this lifestyle centre approved, with Brand Boulevard merchants arguing it would pull trade away from the real street outside. It opened in 2008 with shops, a cinema, 100 condominiums and 242 apartments built above them. It is named for Leslie Coombs Brand, the developer who built much of Glendale in the first place.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
