The Adams Square gas station becomes an art gallery
1936
Glendale, California
Richfield Oil built this Streamline Moderne station in 1936 at the foot of Adams Hill, in a district that had been part of the independent city of Tropico until 1918. Neighbours organised to save it rather than let the corner be cleared, and state money came through in 2000 to restore it inside a small park. Since 2016 the pumps island has been listed on Glendale's historic register and used as a public art gallery.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
