Tennis for Two, the first video game
1958
Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, New York
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
For the lab's public visiting day a physicist wired an analog computer to an oscilloscope so two people could bat a glowing dot back and forth over a net, gravity and all. Lines formed around the building. He thought it a trifle and never patented it, and so the first video game, three years before anything else, belongs to a science-fair booth on Long Island.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
