Smallwood's store at Chokoloskee

A trading post on stilts at the end of the road, dealing with Seminole hunters and the few families scratching a living out of the Ten Thousand Islands. In 1910 a crowd of neighbours shot Edgar Watson dead on the landing outside it, convinced he had murdered his farm hands rather than pay them. Peter Matthiessen built three novels on it. The store is still standing with its stock on the shelves.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
