Silver Springs and the glass-bottom boat
1878
Silver Springs, Florida
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
A local put a glass window in the hull of a rowboat and Florida's first tourist attraction was open, decades before anything else. Six Tarzan films were shot in the springs, and the rhesus monkeys still living along the river are descended from ones released for a jungle-cruise set.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
