Monkey Jungle put the humans in the cage
1933
Redland, Florida
Joseph DuMond turned six Java macaques loose in a patch of subtropical forest here in 1933 and built a park around whatever happened next. Visitors walk through caged tunnels while more than 300 primates range free on 30 acres outside the mesh, which is the point of the slogan about humans being caged and monkeys running wild. It is one of very few protected primate habitats in the country that the public can walk into.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
