A sugar planter's brick house on the bayou, kept by four generations and restored in the 1920s by a great-grandson who filled it with the family's own papers, some seventeen thousand documents covering the plantation, the people enslaved on it, and the Union occupation, which makes it one of the better-documented southern households anywhere.
