San Antonio desegregates its counters without a sit-in

Clergy and business leaders met privately and agreed to integrate before anyone had to sit in. Woolworth's on Alamo Plaza served Black customers that morning, making San Antonio the first major southern city to desegregate its lunch counters, Jackie Robinson called it a story the whole country should hear.
