Samuel Colt's first revolver factory
1836
Old Gun Mill, Van Houten Street, Paterson, New Jersey
Colt was twenty two when he set up the Patent Arms Manufacturing Company in this mill beside the raceways and began turning out the revolver that carried his name. The guns sold badly, the company failed within six years, and Colt did not become Colt until Texas Rangers and the Mexican War revived the design. John Ryle later used the same building to make silk, the trade that took over the city. The mill stands as a roofless shell today.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
