Rhode Island and the slave trade

Rhode Island merchants ran the majority of American slaving voyages, over a thousand of them, financed by rum distilled from Caribbean molasses. The Brown brothers split over it: John kept trading and was prosecuted, Moses became an abolitionist. Brown University published its own report on the money in 2006.
