Redwood Shores is built on salt ponds nobody wanted to annex

Leslie Salt had been evaporating bay water into salt on this ground since 1928, and at the start of the 1960s decided to build a town on it instead. San Carlos and Belmont both declined to annex a proposed community of 60,000 people, so Redwood City took it in. The result is a district of lagoons and software campuses standing on filled bay mud between the San Andreas and Hayward faults.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
