Randy's Donuts and the roof that sells the product
1953
Inglewood, California
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
The giant donut went up in 1953 on the second of ten Big Donut Drive-In stands, designed by Henry J. Goodwin for owner Russell Wendell. The ring is rolled steel bar sprayed with gunite, engineered by Richard Bradshaw, who also worked on the Theme Building at the airport. Randy's took the shop over in 1976. It sits directly under the approach to LAX, which is a large part of why it turns up in so many films.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
