Presque Isle, the peninsula that keeps moving
1921
Presque Isle State Park, Erie, Pennsylvania
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
A sand spit curling seven miles into Lake Erie that has been slowly walking east for as long as anyone has measured it, which is why the road and the beaches keep being rebuilt. It shelters the bay that made Erie a port and it is the busiest state park in Pennsylvania, with something like four million visits a year. Migrating birds pile into it every spring because it is the first land they reach.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
