Pottawatomie Park, the first park under a new Illinois law
1912
St. Charles, Illinois
Illinois passed a Park Act in 1911 that let towns form park districts and buy land for public recreation. St. Charles had one of the first, and the ground it bought on the east bank of the Fox in 1912 became the first park established under the new law. The name is the town's spelling of the Potawatomi, who were removed from this part of the valley in the 1830s.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
