Bronx Zoo, the Bronx

In September 1906 the zoo put a Mbuti man from the Congo, brought to the United States by the explorer Samuel Verner, in the monkey house alongside an orangutan. Around a quarter of a million people came to look during the twenty days it ran. Black ministers led by James H. Gordon protested until the zoo let him out. He was moved to an orphanage and later to Virginia, where he died in 1916. The Wildlife Conservation Society apologised in 2020.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
