Orson Welles grew up at the Todd School

Welles arrived at the Todd School here in 1926, aged ten, out of a chaotic childhood, and later said that if he tried to think of a home, this was it. The headmaster let him stage Shakespeare more or less as he liked, which is where a fifteen-year-old learned to run a company. He came back in 1934 to mount a summer theatre festival in this opera house on the square. That was seven years before he made Citizen Kane. He was born in Kenosha, forty miles east, but Woodstock is where he was assembled.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
