Oregon blows up a whale
1970
Florence, Oregon

A dead sperm whale washed up and the highway division, which had jurisdiction over beaches, decided to remove it with half a ton of dynamite on the theory that scavengers would take the pieces. Blubber came down over a quarter of a mile and flattened a car. The news film has outlived everyone involved, and the city later named a park after it.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
