Old Second National Bank, one of George Grant Elmslie's last commissions

Elmslie spent years as Louis Sullivan's chief draughtsman before going out on his own, and this Aurora bank is among the last buildings he designed. It has the flat brick planes and concentrated terra cotta ornament that mark the Prairie School run of small Midwestern banks, a type Sullivan started and Elmslie carried on after him. The bank has been in business in Aurora since the nineteenth century and still uses the name.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
