Healy Chapel, a Prairie School building for the undertaking trade

William Healy opened a furniture store in Aurora in 1891 that doubled as an undertaker's, which was ordinary practice then, and by 1919 the family had incorporated the business as a mortuary alone. In 1927 they spent $100,000 on a new building by George Grant Elmslie, who had been Louis Sullivan's draughtsman. Very few Prairie School buildings were designed for commercial work, and this is said to be the first building in Illinois used for nothing but undertaking. It is still family run.
