Old Chicago, the world's first indoor amusement park, opens in Bolingbrook
1975
Bolingbrook, Illinois
Old Chicago opened in June 1975 with three roller coasters, a Ferris wheel and a log flume under one roof, ringed by a shopping mall dressed as 1890s Chicago in imitation of Louis Sullivan and the 1893 world's fair. Fifteen thousand people came the first day. Construction overruns put it in trouble within six months, the rides were sold off when it closed in 1980, and the building was demolished in 1986.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
