Golden City, the amusement park Canarsie built to rival Coney Island

Golden City opened on the Jamaica Bay shore in May 1907 to a crowd reported at thirty thousand, fed by a railroad that ran day trippers straight down to the water. Nine acres held a coaster, a scenic railway called Over the Rockies, a ferris wheel and a ride that ran customers through a giant washtub and out between a set of rollers. Robert Moses cleared the bay front in the 1930s and the park went with it.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
