Oklahoma City takes the capital from Guthrie
1910
Guthrie, Oklahoma
Voters chose Oklahoma City and the governor sent an aide to collect the state seal that night, reportedly wrapping it in a bedsheet. Guthrie, which had built itself as a capital, stopped growing, which is why its 1890s downtown survives almost intact.
