A banker built the second-largest private house in the country on the highest point on Long Island, with a hundred and twenty-seven rooms and a formal garden to rival Versailles, and named it from the first letters of his own name. This coast of estates, Otto Kahn's among them, is the country Fitzgerald was writing when he set Gatsby's parties a few miles west.
